On July 12th, 1900, George Matthew Verity founded ARMCO in the city of Middletown, State of Ohio (USA), which would become pioneer in turning steel into manufactured products.

Considered a pioneer for his time, George Verity established new concepts in steel products, innovated the organizational development and production methods, besides introducing the concept of "participating worker" in implementing justice, equity and humanity plans in the relationship with his employees. ARMCO became a model of democracy in the North American industrial sector.

  In 1913, ARMCO installed in Rio de Janeiro its first unit abroad to trade culverts made of imported corrugated steel plates. In 1924, it started to manufacture them in Brazil, intended for Drainage and Sanitation works. In 1947, it stopped importing the raw material, and started to use steel produced by Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional.

In 1958, a new plant to manufacture steel products for Sanitation, Highway Construction and Mining was opened in Honório Gurgel, Rio de Janeiro.

In the 80's, after purchasing MARINGÁ Equipamentos, it started to operate in the agricultural market by manufacturing steel bins, driers, conveyors, and grain storage equipment.

In the early 90's, ARMCO sold all its plants out of the United States, and in this operation in Brazil, in 1993, it turned the Grain Storage and Construction Product Division into an independent company, then named ARMCO STACO.

  ARMCO STACO is celebrating its 91st year of operations in Brazil. Its tradition and long experience are shown especially in its vision of future throughout its managements, always seeking the development of new products, new technologies, quality, and reliability with its clients.

  Today, ARMCO STACO concentrates its operations on the infrastructure market, in four business units:

  :: HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION / SANITATION / MINING
  :: AGRICULTURE (GRAIN STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION)
  :: ELETRIC POWER / TELECOMMUNICATIONS
  :: EXPORT

  These units are supported by an Engineering Department and by an industrial plant occupying 51 thousand square meters of manufacturing area, including 16 thousand square meters of covered area, laboratories and testing. Thirty-five thousand tons of steel are processed there annually for the manufacture of construction systems and products intended for the home market and export, and some of these products lead the market.

  ARMCO STACO invests permanently expressive financial resources in project and production technologies, in quality programs, in training the 320 employees, engineers and technicians, and in their specialization in the markets in which it operates.

In 2003, by expanding its manufacturing complex and opening its second hot-dip galvanizing unit, it turned its galvanizing facilities into one of the largest in Brazil, in order to meet its own needs, besides extending the service to third parties.

In 2004, by automating all the company's sectors and adopting new management techniques, the fulfillment of clients' demands became more agile, secure and quicker.

Recently turned into a joint stock company, supported by BNDES, ARMCO STACO has expanded its operations to meet the demand generated by the growing investments in infrastructure in Brazil and in Latin America, as well as to face the challenges of the global competition.
